Hello! I am Prakashani, currently a FARE Fellow in the Department of Economic Sciences at IIT Kanpur. I have submitted my Ph.D. thesis and am currently awaiting my viva voce (thesis defense). My doctoral research has been conducted under the supervision of Dr. Sohini Sahu and Dr. Neelanjan Datta. I hold a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Economics from Banaras Hindu University.
My research interests lie in Public Finance, Macro-Development, Political Economy, and Inequality. I am particularly interested in fiscal decentralization, political institutions, women's political representation, gender budgeting, and their implications for health, education, and inclusive development.
I am in the job market (2026-2027). My job market paper, "Gender Budgeting, School Infrastructure, and Girls' Schooling Participation: Evidence from the Indian States" (with Dr. Sohini Sahu and Dr. Neelanjan Datta), is currently under revision at Economics of Education Review.
I am also a Fellow of the Global Labor Organization (GLO).
