Frequently asked questions

How does PracTrack know when I'm practicing?

PracTrack uses a machine-learning model that runs entirely on your device to recognize your instrument's sound and tell real playing from silence or background noise. When it hears you playing, timing starts automatically; when you stop, it pauses. No manual start/stop button needed.

Does PracTrack record or upload audio?

No. Audio is analyzed on your device in real time and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. Nothing leaves your phone.

Why isn't my practice being detected?

Make sure microphone access is enabled for PracTrack in your device settings, and that you're in the same room as your device while playing. Background noise or very quiet playing can occasionally affect detection.

What is a streak?

A streak counts the number of consecutive days you've practiced. It's shown on your profile and after each completed session to help you stay consistent.

How do daily goals work?

Each profile can set a daily practice goal (15, 30, 45, 60 minutes, or a custom amount). A progress ring fills in as you get closer.

Can I track more than one person?

 Yes. PracTrack supports multiple profiles, each with its own goal, and practice history.

Is my data backed up?

PracTrack stores your data locally on your device. To back it up, open the app to the profile chooser screen ("Who's practicing?"), tap the gear icon in the top-right corner to open Settings, then use Export to save everything to a file. To restore, open Settings on the same or a different device and use Restore, then select that file.

How do I delete my data?

Open the profile chooser screen ("Who's practicing?"), tap the pencil icon next to the profile you want to remove, then scroll to the bottom of the edit screen and tap Delete profile (in red). Confirm when prompted. This permanently removes that profile and its practice history.

Deleting the app itself removes all locally stored data for every profile.
