This two-hour course will teach 6 steps in preventing and repairing parent partner-caregiver relationship strains and ruptures resulting from mandated reporting of child abuse or neglect.
Parent partners will describe the most challenging aspects of these situations. The course will use exercises, demonstrations and role plays to have participants practice skills so they can master these situations on the job.
The six steps are:
1. Clarifying mandated reporting requirements – maybe less on this as we will be having DCFS doing a deeper dive training to the what is reportable.
2. Examining options to immediate reporting
3. Reporting with the caregiver
4. Repairing the strain or rupture in the relationship
5. Recognizing when the caregiver feels so betrayed that repairing the relationship is impossible and a new Parent Partner should be assigned
6. Preventing future reportable behavior
This training is intended for Parent Partner and LA County Peer Support Specialists working with parents, families and children.
This training will provide 2 hours of Parent Partner Continuing Education, and also meets C.E. requirements for SB803 recertification.
