Hosted by the Los Angeles Training Consortium
Presented by PAT MILES
Many Peer Parents struggle with how to document their work with parents they support. As a result, Peer Parents may end up following the documentation strategies of clinically trained staff in trying to record and recognize their work. This workshop will talk about complications in creating a record of Peer Support for parents that recognizes the file is the child’s file, shares enough of the story of support for parents to inform others working with the family and chronicles the power of connection for the parent. Participants will have an opportunity to find their Peer Support voice in completing progress notes by practicing throughout the workshop.

Patricia Miles lives in Gresham, Oregon and has been involved in a variety of community development and human service enterprises including starting a battered women’s shelter, running a youth employment program, directing a residential treatment center that turned itself inside out to do community-based work, and managing the start-up of a large scale implementation of wraparound in Columbus, Ohio. She is the co-author of many of the articles on her website (PaperBoat.com) and has been a leader in developing a consistent and reproducible model for strength-based, needs-driven facilitation of child and family teams, and has developed the Directive Supervision model for practical and effective integration of human resources, staff development, and staff supervision in human service agencies. On a more local note, Pat has been a large part of Los Angeles Wraparound, consulted at many LA County service providers, maybe even yours. She has trained extensively with the LATC and her trainings are always filled to rafters.
