A Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Parent Partner Training Academy Sponsored Continuing Education Training Event, Hosted by the Los Angeles Training Consortium
Challenging behaviors usually stem from unmet needs or lagging skills, not a lack of motivation. Grounded in California's Family Peer Core Competencies, this introductory workshop equips Parent Partners with Dr. J. Stuart Ablon’s Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) framework. Participants will learn to transform conflict into collaboration, mentor caregivers, advocate effectively, and integrate their lived experience into multidisciplinary care teams to empower families.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Understand the CPS Framework: Identify core principles and use lagging skills to help caregivers address behaviors with empathy and curiosity.
Practice the 3-Step Process: Apply foundational CPS conversation steps to coach families, strengthen engagement, and build lasting resilience.
Elevate Lived Expertise: Build confidence using CPS language to advocate for families and partner effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

This training is free and presented online via ZOOM.
This training is intended for Parent Partner and LA County Peer Support Specialists working with parents, families and children.
This training will provide 2 hours of Parent Partner Continuing Education, and also meets C.E. requirements for SB803 recertification.
Presented by Alejandra Trujillo, M.S., LMFT
Alejandra Trujillo is a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Mexico Licensed Psychologist. She serves as Adjunct Faculty and Clinical Supervisor for California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She is the TFCBT-EBP Specialist Lead Clinician at San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., a Department of Mental Health contracted agency providing mental health services for the underserved populations from 0-18 years of age. Alejandra also maintains a private practice in Northridge, California. Alejandra has specialized in the treatment of trauma (PTSD, Complex-PTSD, intergenerational trauma. etc.) throughout the lifespan. She is certified in Trauma Focus-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy
(CPP), Child-Parent Interaction Therapy (PCIT), PCIT In-house Trainer, Managing and Adaptive Practices (MAP), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). In addition, she is a certified Instructor and Educator of Infant Massage through the International Association of Infant Massage.
