Hi! I'm Ms. Laura, the library director here at Princeton Public Library. As most at the library, I have a deep appreciation and love for the written word. Many of the books I read are of a more literary nature which I will be listing several here on this page. However, thanks to working at the library, I am introduced to wide variety of genres and authors that I may not have considered reading previously. A book that either makes me pause for thought, leaves me excited to discuss, or whisks me away to another place are my markers for a "good" read. If it accomplishes all three, well that is the cherry on top for sure!
Some of my picks you will have already read or heard of, but what I hope my staff picks page, and all of our pages do, is inspire you to try something new. As Bilbo Baggins mentioned, "there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."
by Matthew Dicks
This book tunes in beautifully to a child's perspective of the world, capturing the innocence and imagination of childhood. Despite this, several themes and topics are brought to light in a way that can serve as a guide to adults, especially those struggling to understand their autistic child. A sweet, emotional read that will leave you with much to ponder while keeping you at the edge of your seat.

A cozy read that reminds you that age is just a number and assumptions are dangerous. These books kept me turning the page simply out of curiosity. I was drawn in with both the character and the writing, engrossed in the story simply for a need to know what happens next? A sour and sweet morsel that will leave you keeping a closer eye on the elderly for sure.
Or The Whale
By Herman Melville
I will not lie, this is a slow, painful read that created a love-hate relationship between the book and I, however, I am glad I read it. If you have ever wondered what it might feel like to be out on the ocean for days on end, this book will put you there. Though there are some adventures to be had, and a good many themes to dissect, this classic has eked its way into contemporary works and entertainment providing it with a level of staying power that beckons it to be picked up off the shelf. I'd recommend this book for a bucket-list read for sure, and much like the whale, may you rise to overcome the challenges of this book.
by George Orwell
This is one of my most absolute favorite books since I had read it way back in high school. Though a bit of a slow and dry read, it is thought provoking. This book is filled with prophetic ideas and warnings that will stay with you. Much of the content has worked its way into everyday vernacular such as "big brother's watching". If you have not already read this book, it is another one for your reading bucket list.
