Mission and Goals
Mission and Goals
The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) Personality/Personality Disorders (P/PD) Special Interest Group (SIG) is a group committed to the enhancement of health and well-being by advancing our scientific understanding and improving the assessment of personality and treatment of personality-related difficulties.
The P/PD SIG Diversity Task Force (formed December 2022) is committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice within the field of personality and personality disorders research, training, and clinical practice.
Goals
We pursue our mission through a set of tangible goals:
Promote Diversity and Accessibility: Support and encourage attention to issues of diversity across dimensions such as disability, race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and lived experience of personality disorders.
Foster Inclusive Practices within the SIG: Develop and implement strategies to make the P/PD Special Interest Group (SIG) more accessible, equitable, and inclusive by applying anti-stigma, anti-ableist, and anti-racist frameworks. This includes initiating changes, providing feedback, and collaborating with other groups and members as needed.
Identify and Address Gaps and Needs: Identify and address diversity-related gaps in research, training, and clinical practice within the field by organizing panels, trainings, and discussions; curating relevant resources and articles; and developing and disseminating projects and initiatives.
Scholarship and Support: Design and implement an ABCT travel scholarship (with the goal of expanding these efforts) for students who:
a) Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC); Disabled; LGBT+; and/or have lived experience of a personality disorder,
b) Are engaged in or pursuing research or clinical work related to P/PD, and
c) Demonstrate financial need.
