All Shows - Gymkhana and Pleasure:
Contestants must follow Colorado 4-H Horse Show Rules
Appropriate tack required, verify in rule book prior to showing.
Contestants must be 8 or older to ride as of 1/1/2026
Registration closed at 8 PM the Thursday before each show, pre-registration highly encouraged.
LATE ENTRIES, A $20 office fee will be added to your registration if you register after the pre-registration deadline. We print several copies of the order of go prior to the show as well as judges score sheet for pleasure shows. Changes require a reprint or hand written updates to every copy (up to 50 updates per contestant to updated all documents and copies) as well as update to our tabulations sheet. This is very time consuming and often delays the start of the show.
High Point is based on one horse one rider combo
Horses that are known to kick must have a red ribbon in their tail
In the 8-10 age group only: Lead line is allowed for those not confident enough to ride alone in the arena but only for walk/trot/jog & gymkhana classes. You cannot have a lead line in any classes that require you to canter or lope.
No stallions allowed on the grounds
No smoking anywhere on the grounds (not allowed per McKeever Arena Rules)
All dogs must be on a leash, aggressive or dogs barking at horses or people will be asked to leave.
No arguing, yelling, inappropriate language, inappropriate hand gestures or disrespect towards Show Management, Judges, Volunteers, Contestants or Spectators
Trail Course may close early if the majority of contestants have completed the course. If it closes early a 20 minute notice will be given.
Gymkhana Only Rules:
You must ride in a Western saddle
Helmet, Long Sleeve & Boots required
No running in or out of the arena gate, you must walk in and out, if needed for safety reason you may be led in or dismount to walk through gate. Running in will be considered a disqualification.
Walking with a rider past the white line or using a lead is allowed if needed for safety/confidence reasons. 8-10 age group will still get a placing but for older age groups this will be considered a disqualification.
Horses must be under control at all times
No day of high point awards given, buckles will be presented at the 3rd gymkhana for high point and reserve per age group.
Show management determines what is considered a disqualification for off pattern, it will be the same for all contestants in the age group. Leniency is often given for forward motion and fixing patterns by going back to a missed obstacle but not actually going off pattern especially for the 8-10 age group. Going fully around a barrel or pole will be a disqualification.
These shows are all family friendly events. Failure to follow these rules could result is being asked to leave the grounds with no refund and no points/placings counting for the day. This includes those you are representing.
