Privacy Policy for Currency Converter PRO

This Privacy Policy applies to the Currency Converter PRO browser extension for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome (the Extension).

Summary

The Extension converts currency amounts, can show conversions for text selected on a web page, and downloads public exchange rates. It has no user accounts, advertising, or extension analytics. It does not sell personal information.

Most processing takes place locally in the browser. The Extension sends requests to its exchange-rate service and opens external web pages in the limited cases described below.

Information processed and stored locally

The Extension uses the browser's local extension storage to retain:

converter state and preferences, including selected currencies, the latest entered amount, number formatting, tax or fee percentage, theme, feature toggles, and badge settings;
cached public exchange rates and update timestamps;
the currency code derived for the user as a default;
help-tour and rating-prompt state; and
site-specific currency preferences. These entries contain a website hostname, base or quote currency, and a last-updated timestamp. They do not contain a full page URL or page title. The Extension retains no more than 500 hostname entries and removes the oldest entries when that limit is exceeded.

The Extension does not maintain a conversion-history log.

Browser language and timezone

The Extension reads the browser's preferred language and IANA timezone locally to suggest a default currency. The raw language and timezone values are not stored or sent to the exchange-rate service; only the resulting currency code is stored locally. The Extension does not use IP-based geolocation and does not call ipapi.co or Cloudflare Trace for location detection.

Website content and limited browsing data

The optional Price Converter feature runs on web pages so it can respond when a user selects text. When this feature is enabled and text is selected, the Extension locally processes:

the selected text, limited to 100 characters; and
currency-related values from JSON-LD metadata on that page, such as priceCurrency.

This content is used only to identify an amount and currency and display the conversion requested by the user. Selected text and JSON-LD page content are not stored and are not transmitted to the developer, the exchange-rate service, or an analytics service. A derived currency preference may be stored with the website hostname as described above.

Because hostnames and timestamps may be stored for sites where this feature is used, the Extension handles limited website-interaction data. It does not collect a general list of visited pages, full URLs, page titles, clicks, keystrokes, form data, cookies, or complete page contents.

Network requests and disclosures

Exchange-rate service

The Extension periodically sends an HTTPS GET request to:

https://cdn.moneyconvert.net/api/latest.json

The response contains public currency rates. The Extension does not add selected text, website hostnames, browser language or timezone, local preferences, or user-entered amounts to this request.

As with any HTTPS request, the server and its content-delivery and security providers necessarily receive technical connection data such as the IP address, request headers, and timestamp. That data may be retained in security and server logs under the service provider's policy. The Extension does not use this technical data for advertising or profiling.

CurrencyRate.today and Store pages

The Extension may open https://currencyrate.today/ after first installation and after removal, with a source parameter identifying the browser extension. When a user chooses View details, the opened CurrencyRate.today URL may also contain the entered amount, base currency, quote currency, and a source parameter. Support, disclaimer, and rating actions may open CurrencyRate.today, the Chrome Web Store, or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

Opening an external page sends the destination the normal web-request data, including the IP address, request headers, timestamp, and the values present in the URL. The destination's privacy policy applies after the page is opened.

Copying and sharing

Copy actions write conversion text and a CurrencyRate.today URL to the local clipboard. If the user explicitly chooses Share, the Extension passes the conversion text and URL to the browser or operating system share interface. Any app selected by the user handles that information under its own privacy policy.

Remote code

All executable JavaScript used by the Extension is included in its installed package. The Extension does not download or execute remote JavaScript or Wasm.

Information we do not collect for the Extension

The Extension is not designed to collect:

names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account identifiers;
passwords, authentication credentials, or personal communications;
health information or payment-card and banking information;
precise GPS location;
advertising identifiers; or
behavioral analytics or telemetry.

User-entered currency amounts are calculator inputs, not payment transactions. They are processed locally, except when the user opens or shares a details URL as described above.

How information is used

Information handled by the Extension is used only to provide user-facing currency-conversion features: remember settings, fetch and cache rates, suggest a default currency, show site-specific conversions, and maintain the Extension's interface. It is not used for advertising, cross-site tracking, creditworthiness, lending decisions, or purposes unrelated to the Extension's single purpose.

Sharing and sale

We do not sell or rent information handled by the Extension. We do not transfer selected page text, stored hostnames, or Extension preferences to third parties. The only routine third-party processing is the technical connection data needed to deliver the public rate file. Additional disclosure occurs through the installation or removal page, when the user opens or shares an external URL as described above, or when disclosure is required by applicable law.

Permissions

Storage: saves Extension settings, site-specific currency preferences, cached rates, and feature state locally.
Alarms: schedules periodic exchange-rate refreshes in the background.
Side panel: provides the expanded converter interface in the browser side panel.
Host access to cdn.moneyconvert.net: downloads the public exchange-rate file.
Access to web pages: enables the optional, user-facing Price Converter for selected text. Page content is handled as described in this Policy.

Retention, controls, and deletion

Local Extension data remains in the browser profile until it is replaced, removed by the Extension's retention rules, cleared through browser tools, or the Extension is uninstalled. Cached rates are replaced during later refreshes. The 500-entry limit described above applies to site-specific preferences.

Users can:

disable Price Converter to stop processing new page selections;
change converter preferences at any time;
use Reset to defaults to reset the main converter and formatting settings; this does not necessarily delete every feature-state or site-preference entry; and
remove the Extension or clear its extension storage in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome to delete all locally stored Extension data.

Technical server logs cannot be inspected through the Extension. Where applicable law provides access, correction, objection, restriction, or deletion rights for server-side personal data, contact us using the address below. A request may require enough information to identify the relevant log entry.

Security

Network requests initiated by the Extension use HTTPS. Local data is isolated in the browser's extension storage and is subject to the security of the user's device, operating system, browser profile, and browser account. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children's privacy

The Extension is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 or the higher minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Extension.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when the Extension's behavior, service providers, or legal requirements change. The Last updated date will be revised when a new version is published. Where required, material changes will also be disclosed in the Extension or Store listing.
