The Potsdam Morpho-Syntax Lab unites researchers with an interest in theoretical (generative) morphology and syntax and their interfaces with semantics (LF) and phonology (PF). We have a strong interest in questions pertaining to the architecture of grammar, the study of understudied languages/varieties, questions relating to variation and variability, and in experimental methods that help us to advance morphological/syntactic theory.
We are in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Potsdam and have close ties with the semantics group headed by Malte Zimmermann.
We are part of the broader cognitive science community in Potsdam and actively participate in the collaborative research center 1287 on Limits of Variability in Language.
Our Lab will be organizing the next edition of the Comparative Germanic Syntax Workshop (CGSW 38), which is taking place in Potsdam on September 17–18, 2026! More details about the Workshop can be found here.
Several members of our Lab have had their Arbeitsgruppe proposal accepted for the 49th Jahrestagung of the DGfS, to be held at the University of Jena from March 2–5, 2027! The AG is titled "Small primitives, big syntax". More information, including keynote speakers and a call for papers, will follow soon. See here for full details.
