The POST-SCREEN Research Project was designed at the Artistic Studies Research Center (CIEBA) based at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL) between 2013 and 2017. From 2015 we were able to count with the partnership of Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias that hosted this project in its facilities.
This research project combines various areas of research within practice and theoretic fields, on the idea of post-screen. The prefix post- intends to propose an ontological reflection about the screen in order to question and provide for multiple perspectives regarding the way our visual culture is affected by the use of screens in our everyday lives, whether in domestic or public spaces, and the way the use of new technologies are set as a powerful tool for artistic practices.
The Post-Screen research project consists of several activities:
International conferences with unique and plural perspectives regarding the central theme of each year’s edition;
Essay book comprising texts from invited experts and selected authors, regarding the central theme of each year’s edition;
Group exhibitions and published Catalogue.
Workshops designed for the general public;
Round tables and seminars.
The POST-SCREN Research Project aimed to bring together a number of experts in various fields of research and artistic practice in order to promote interdisciplinary discussion and creative productions, and to foster emerging issues related to the use of new technologies (moving image, sound, digital images, virtual reality, immersive environments, networked cultures).
The main objectives of this project were:
to produce an international event called Post-Screen: International Festival of Art, New Media and Cybercultures
to contribute and to promote research in art;
to foster collaboration between national and international institutions, researchers and artists;
to promote training activities in connection with the use of new technologies in creative production in the Visual Arts.
to publish relevant research such as essay books and exhibition catalogues.
