POSTECH attains advanced research capabilities with 150 node high performance computing cluster

posted Mar 23, 2011, 12:03 PM by Taehoon Kim   [ updated May 15, 2012, 9:33 PM by Hwanjo Yu ]

With a 150 node high performance computing cluster we're able to complete larger scale research projects and advanced computation problems.

Each cluster node has 24 GB memory, 3 TB hard disk space and 2 hexa-core CPUs (in total, 3600 Cores, 3.6 Terabyte memory, 450 Terabyte HDD). By deploying a 150 node Dell PowerEdge R610 rack server cluster with Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series and Dell PowerConnect 6248 Ethernet switches housed within PowerEdge Rack 4210 server enclosures, POSTECH created a flexible and powerful HPC solution that can scale to meet the department’s growing research needs.

Professor Yu comments, “Working on data-intensive research projects such as developing intelligent search engines is now possible for our students and faculty.”
