The Ramones were an American punk rock band formed in the New York City neighborhood Forest Hills, Queens in 1974 - just ten miles from the neighborhood where I grew up.
The Ramones were unrelated - their pseudonyms were inspired by Paul McCartney, who used the stage name Paul Ramon when the Beatles were still calling themselves The Silver Beetles.
I fancy myself a Green Day fan so I don't know how I forgot listening to this one years ago. Billie Joe Armstrong turns in a powerful vocal performance in this masterpiece of self-searching. It's a short punk version of a theme explored at great length in T.S. Eliot's "Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock". Of course Eliot's J Alfred is much older than the protagonist of Oh Love. But, get this...Eliot wrote his masterpiece when he was 22.
