Our History
We decided to join Odyssey Angels to use our creative problem-solving skills to come up with a unique service project for our community! The Odyssey Angels program challenges us to use our unique creative problem-solving abilities to help some aspect of your community that would otherwise be overlooked. Since we witnessed a lot of hate and negativity in the world when noticing negative window stickers on vehicles and being bullied at school. We wanted to do something about it!
This type of attitude fuels violence in the world. Why do others hurt people? Do these people feel LOVED or accepted? Can you give love or care about others if you don’t feel loved? As we pondered these questions we realized that many people react to hateful words and actions with just more hateful words and actions, but this does not solve the problem. Rather, it escalates it instead. We wanted to start a movement to help create a more positive environment to counteract the negative attitudes that are so prevalent in our society. We knew we needed kind, loving words to help people feel better about themselves, to feel loved, and produce a more positive environment.
We started with positive affirmations to help produce a more positive enviroment to counteract the negativity all around us. When people in our community saw our work, they became intrigued and loved what we were doing! It became contageous! Our service project inspired others to help with our mission to fulfill the need to be loved!
We all have a need to feel fulfilled, first and foremost to be LOVED! Our mission is to help fulfill this need to be loved! But we can’t do this if our own need of being loved is not fulfilled! If we feel loved, we can pass on this love to others. Then others who receive our love may in turn pass on the love as well! They may pass on that love in forms of positive affirmations and helping others in need. This is how we begin the process of helping others in need. We all have a share in this! We can make a positive impact in our community using positive affirmations! We can turn the whole world around with love! But this begins in our own backyard!
We wanted to come up with a unique way of doing this because it became our mission! We began by incorporating our mission into our fundraising efforts! At our Culver’s fundraisers we handed out packages of gummy bears to represent Care Bears with positive affirmations to pass on our love! In return, we received a lot of positive reactions!
We wanted to create more positive things to give to our community. So we brained stromed many more things we could give to the community. We came up with “Share the Love” Peace Pets are stuffed animals with positive affirmations and essential oils that can be used as stress balls, microwaveable heat pads, and ice packs.
We also created “Share the Love” stress balls with positive affirmations to relieve stress. When stressed they can be squeezed like a stress ball or hurled on the floor and bounce like a bouncy ball.
We gave them to many organizations with a personal note attached to each one, so they feel special.
We also wanted to create a “Share the Love” movement in schools to help subside bullying, and we thought it’d be great for others to reap the OM benefits of being creative and putting their own unique styles into the project too, so we came up with “Share the Love” bracelets, keychains, pencils, and bookmarks that we gave students the opportunity to make. Our bracelet and zipper clip ideas are made with positive affirmations that you wear on your wrist or attach to your backpack or jacket and pass on to someone who needs to feel loved! For our “Share the Love” pencils, students write a positive affirmation on a pencil to keep in their pencil case to give to anyone who asks to borrow a pencil. Our “Share the Love” bookmarks can be given to each other during silent reading at school or put in the school library for anyone to grab!
We reached out to shoolsYouth groups and three OM compitions to help us create these items.
We also came up with a “Share the Love” Beach Ball game as a variation to the classroom Mum-ball game. It has all the same rules as Mum-ball, except you use a beach ball with positive affirmations on each colored section. The person who catches the ball reads one of the sections to someone before they pass the ball. If they say anything else, they're out. We played our game during trading at OM competitions.
We took a stepfurther and to create a "Possitive Affrimations National Day" to make the idea to spread our movement and positivity across our community. This day is after Labor Day to start the school year off with positivity and positive activities in the classroom.
We are hoping to create "Share the Love" movement in our community and hopefully beyond!
