Portola opened in 2016 with 1 class of freshmen, and the school didn't have any varsity teams until 2018, with no senior class yet. We were in the lowest division of CIF (Division 7) and could have had a better win-loss record. However, our first graduating class of 2020 paved the way for excellence despite the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 disrupting their senior season. The class of 2020 institutionalized the program's values: passion, commitment, and competitiveness, even in the face of a global pandemic.
In 2021, our first "back to normal" season post-COVID, we moved up to Division 4 and went to CIF for the first time. We made it all the way to the semifinals, where we fell to LBP by 1 point. This kickstarted our drive and commitment to becoming a championship team.
In 2022, we made a significant leap, moving up from Division 4 to Division 3. This marked our second run to CIF and a major milestone for our program. We won PCL and became finalists/runners-up that season to Damien. However, our most memorable game was against Irvine HS in the semifinals, where we triumphed for the first time in program history. It was a nail-biting match, with our team showing exceptional teamwork and resilience, ultimately securing a milestone victory.
In 2023, we moved to Division 2 and made our third consecutive run to CIF, again reaching the semifinals.
Over the past few years, the Portola Bulldogs have not only witnessed significant growth but also rapid success. This is a testament to our program's unwavering commitment to developing championship-level players. As PORTOLA BULLDOGS, we take immense pride in representing our school and community!
