Over July, I attempted to see how far into making a Pokemon game I can get within a week to test how well I can balance the difficulty of an RPG experience.
Azure Town:
The player starts off their journey in this coastal town. To add to the theme of arriving at a new island at the start of the game, I chose a coastal location to make more geographical sense. From this, I could decide what sort of Pokémon I wanted to show up in the surrounding areas. I set up an event where the player has to talk to the Pokémon Centre Lady before leaving, as if they don't, they won't spawn back in he right place. I did this by making a trainer in the next area not letting you pass unless you've visited her. Once you set foot in the Pokémon Centre, the event triggers that allow the game to send you there if you faint.
Azure Town consists of three homes you can enter, one of which you are directed to by Professor Oak as your own house, containing a box with running shoes and some Poke Balls.
Route 301:
Route 302:
The Coastal House is an area located between Route 301 and Rebound Cave, inside is a trainer that is tough to beat, but beating him will reward you with the Safety Goggles item, fitting for a scientist but also makes your Pokemon immune to weather damage which could be handy later on. There is also a Chansey that interacting with it will heal your party, serving as a checkpoint after making it past Route 301 so that your team is fully healed for later areas.
Maramill Town:
Maramill Ranch:
This expansive zone is home to many farm like Pokemon like Mareep and Combee- you'll be able to find plenty of Bug and Grass Pokemon here.
Rebound Cave (Upper)
Rebound Cave (Lower)
Soloco City
These are the encounter tables for Route 301, Route 302 and Maramill Ranch. Keeping the levels low means it's harder to over-level for battles, keeping the player at a steady pace. It also makes it easier to train Pokemon that are weaker by being less likely to run into higher level Pokemon.
These four Events above show off the Gym's main challenge- a memory game where each NPC has a food order that you have to memorize and three other NPCs will quiz you on all of their orders combined with growing difficulty.

POTENTIAL FUTURE JOBS: 24/09/24
Depending on the job role, someone wanting an application in University or a job may layout their portfolio differently depending on the job they want. An artist may display their work in an art book, showing off art processes like outline, silhouette and colour. A level designer would build their portfolio more like a web page and talk about stages like main level building, collectables and how it aligns with level design theory.
Looking into this job,
These are the SMART Targets that I have set for myself. I believe these goals are manageable and will help improve my transferrable skills, which are applicable in both a technical and personal space.
