I have always had a passion for education and teaching. Growing up, I spent much of my time at my aunt's preschool, which solidified my interest in the field. As a result, choosing a major in college was a difficult decision for me, as I had to balance my love of French and education. I ultimately decided to major in French, which allowed me to study abroad in Paris for a year. During my time there, I had the opportunity to teach English at a local French school. This experience opened my eyes to different languages, cultures, and ways of learning. Upon returning to college for my senior year, I was able to delve deeper into various forms of learning and theories of education. My master's degree allowed me to focus specifically on curriculum and learning development.
In the winter of 2019, I began my student teaching experience. I was fortunate to have a great mentor who utilized Google Classroom for all aspects of her teaching. This enabled me to quickly learn how to navigate the learning management system and create online worksheets and handouts. Later that year, in the fall, I joined a school and began designing the curriculum for French 1, teaching four classes of students of all ages.
My first year of teaching was disrupted by the pandemic in March. I had to quickly adapt and learn how to create online lessons, modifying my entire curriculum to be delivered through a learning management system. Over the next two years, I developed a curriculum that could be used in a blended learning environment, as well as in both asynchronous and synchronous settings.
As a teacher during the pandemic, I discovered my passion for not only curriculum building and design, but also for the technology aspect of online and blended learning. I began incorporating more technology in my classroom and I realized that while I love teaching, I want to work with a broader audience to design and develop curriculum and lessons. After discussing with a friend in the corporate field, they suggested that I might be well-suited for the role of an instructional designer. I researched the field and decided that it was the next step for me. I studied various tools such as Storyline, Rise 360, Adobe Illustrator, Camtasia, and Google Suite, as well as instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, Gagne's Nine Events, Action Mapping, and Mayer's Principles of Multimedia Learning to create and design my projects.
If you've made it this far, you might be curious to learn more about me. My number one passion is traveling; I've been to four continents and over 25 countries. Whenever I visit a new place, I make a point to try the local cuisine, learn some of the language, and, if possible, take a cooking class. When I'm not traveling, I enjoy exploring my home state of Massachusetts, taking new walks and visiting the seaside. I also enjoy experimenting with crafts, such as pottery and sewing. Baking is another passion of mine, particularly bread making. I find exploring new doughs and flour combinations to be peaceful and rewarding, especially when paired with a new soup or jam.
