Short Films

Industrialised is a short poetic documentary a small team of students and I made for our BA1 Creating Documentary module at the Northern Film School.

The film uses contrasting imagery to comment on how the industrial revolution has affected the environment. Immersing you in the past using archival footage and a layered mechanical soundscape before then bringing you back into the present.

We did not have specific roles on this project as the aim of the module was to balance the work between all the crew, however, I mostly contributed to the camera work and organising the production of the short.

'Black Jack' is a low-budget short film a few of my friends and I shot in less than a day for fun. It was a massive learning curve for me as a filmmaker, especially as a director. I had written a basic screenplay for this project without any dialogue to allow myself to focus on the camera work. Although I made a lot of mistakes with lighting, sound, and general planning for the shoot that I won't repeat.

The short is a Horror, Mystery that follows 'Ava' on a walk late at night. Ava stumbles upon a mysterious playing card. Upon picking it up she finds her surroundings have changed, Will she turn back in fear? or will her need to see where it leads push her onwards?

My Role(s) on this project included being a Director, Producer and Editor.

‘The Game’ is a murder mystery, where you play the role of the detective interrogating four suspects from different time periods as they conspire against one another. It is a 360-degree short film that you can watch via a virtual reality headset or by turning on the spot with your device.

We made this short film as part of the BFI 360-degree filmmaking course at the Storyhouse, in Chester in partnership with Reel Solutions. Fifteen students split into two groups, planning, and producing two short films over the course of around 40 hours. We attended masterclasses from external speakers and learned new skills relating to 360 filmmaking. As a team, we allocated each member important roles throughout the week and together we planned, filmed, and promoted this film.
