Mathias Shooter
This platformer game follows Mathias as he overcomes obstacles to defeat scary monsters!
These screenshots are from Mathias Shooter in action. The project was developed for the Algorithms and Data Structures course at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), as part of our Computer Engineering degree. The challenge was to create a game using the retro engine Pyxel.
The game features a two-player mechanic, with players controlling Mathias and Mathilda, who both shoot fireballs to eliminate their enemies. Since the engine only supported a 16-color palette and just three asset sheets, it was a significant challenge to work on the art and animations.
My role in this project covered all creative assets: I composed the soundtrack, created all the pixel art, and produced all the animations. Our team was a duo, composed of me and a programmer, and we developed the game in about 2 months.
The inspiration for Mathias Shooter was very personal, coming from a real dinosaur plushie I have named Mathias. In the end, the game successfully fulfilled the course requirements and was a great opportunity to gain experience in pixel art and music production.
