From the tender strokes of a pencil on a sketchpad to the intricate dance of molecules under a microscope, my journey has been guided by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a deep-seated desire to make the world a better place.
As a child who sketched dreams on paper, found wonder in the pages of books, and was eventually captivated by the marvels revealed in a biology textbook, I discovered my calling amidst the tapestry of life's complexities.
This beacon guided me toward biology.
My journey through the twilight of high school was fueled by an unwavering resolve, propelling me into the venerable halls of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Here, under the weight of academia's demands, my passion for biology transformed study into an insatiable absorption of knowledge, earning me a place of distinction and the privilege of scholarship for both my bachelor’s and master's degrees in molecular biology.
My early fascination with the natural world was not just about understanding life's intricacies but about uncovering the stories hidden within the very fabric of existence.
In my second year at university, I ventured into the realm of the O. V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry, where I began to sow the seeds of my future in the scientific community, nurtured by the waters of student conferences and the sunlight of scientific publications.
At the university, I encountered a void in the realm of scientific communication. Stirred by the aesthetic call of my works and the pressing need to render the complex into the comprehensible, I married my childhood passion for art with my vocation in science, crafting illustrations that breathed life into abstract concepts.
Biology became my language, a means to communicate the beauty and complexity of life.
However, the tapestry of my life darkened with the onset of full-scale war, casting me into a crucible in the Kyiv region where, stripped of communication, sustenance, and warmth, I was confronted with the fragility of existence. Amidst the starlit beauty marred by the Russian missiles, a profound transformation unfolded within me – a shift in values towards the sanctity of love for life. This ordeal, a harrowing passage through the shadow of death, imbued me with a renewed purpose and an indelible appreciation for life's preciousness. This harrowing experience reshaped my worldview and my mission.
I finally had to realize myself with the evacuation. The things that I was able to see – the Russian military, the Russian tank aimed at a column of civilians, a destroyed village, dead soldiers, and gunshots. I believe it is a miracle that I am still able to write this motivation letter.
After the evacuation, Lviv offered a new chapter.
Unable to continue my prior engagements, I aligned with the Gladstone Institute of Data Science and Biotechnology as a scientific illustrator, a role that crystallized my mission to demystify science through the visual medium. This revelation led me to a profound understanding: my destiny lay not within the confines of a lab but in the vibrant intersections of society, especially with children.
This conviction guided me to remain in Lviv, where, alongside friends, I embarked on work at a non-profit What If Creative School for children, impacted by war. Together with my friend and colleague, physicist and popularizer of science, we launched the History of the Universe course, which transformed into an independent project.
History of the Universe is a non-profit educational project about science for children, who have been impacted by the full-scale war initiated by Russia in Ukraine. This initiative, born from the union of biology and physics, aims to inspire children with the wonders of our universe.
Returning to Kyiv, amidst the backdrop of continuous fear and personal challenges, I refused to let the shadow of war dampen my spirit or derail my goals. I became a part of the tyshi.ai project. The mission is the same. The tools are different. This initiative represents a form of scientific communication utilizing a new tool: artificial intelligence.
tyshi.ai is a conceptual AI art project inspired by Ukraine. This project marries scientific communication with the transformative power of artificial intelligence and art, capturing the indomitable spirit of Ukraine. Through this endeavor, we seek to inspire, unite, and heal, painting a vision of a peaceful, triumphant future for our nation and beyond.
My narrative is one of transformation, from a child who dreamt in pictures to a scientist who sees beyond the microscope, from a survivor of war to a source of love. Each step of my journey has been guided by my value – love. Love for life, for people, and for our country. With love, I follow my missions in science – to popularize science and inspire by science through the universal language of creativity. This synthesis of disciplines is not just my profession; it is my way of understanding the world and sharing its beauty with others. It is a fundamental combination of physics and biology, science and art. In this combination, I seek the truth about our universe.
My impact extends far beyond the realms of academic achievement and scientific exploration. At the heart of my mission lies a profound commitment to nurturing individual souls with love, inspiration, and unwavering support.
