ABOUT US

Pop Smoke BBQ was an idea back in 2013 that became a dream in 2017 that morphed into a reality in 2023. From the backyard grillin' days to the event planning holidays, Pop Smoke BBQ is the name behind the Chef making great BBQ food inspired by backyard BBQ chefs across the globe. Pop Smoke BBQ's Pit Master Jeremy Dunfee (Chef J) is a self-taught BBQ man, but credits his late grandfather's passion for cooking for his family as his first example of what great home cooking truly was: more than just putting food on a plate. After years of feeding his family, hosting family events, feeding the youth baseball team or the local Boy Scouts, and private catering events, Chef J saw an opportunity to share his passion for BBQ with Cleveland County community.

OUR FOOD

Our Food is central Texas inspired BBQ, influenced by the North Carolina foothills.

⭐ Our made-from-scratch sauces cater to both sides of the NC BBQ line:

Cheerwine sweet sauce, and NC classic vinegar sauce.

⭐ Pop Smoke BBQ's brisket is slow-smoked for no less than 12 hours over hickory or post oak wood. It is rested and chopped to perfectly marry the point and flat parts of the meat, making every bite savory and delicious.

⭐ Our pulled pork is juicy and tender, smoked over hickory and oak wood, rested and pulled to perfection. Our seasonings add a zing of sweet heat.

⭐ Our fork-worthy BBQ baked beans are thickened with our house-made sweet sauce, molasses, seasonings, and chopped bacon.

OUR PASSION

Our Passion is making great food, from locally-sourced ingredients. Chef J loves making people happy through food.

THE STORY BEHIND "POP SMOKE BBQ"

As an Army Veteran, Chef J wanted a name that fellow Vets can recognize and connect with. "Pop Smoke" is a play on a military term commonly known to Veterans to mean "call for extraction."
