History

Randy and Kristie moved to Albany in 1995.  Randy came to know many people of the community from working two years at Our Town Market and eight years at Hogue Lumber.  Kristie started her own business, Kristie's Candles, one block north of the Square.

In 2005 Randy and Kristie Poppa converted a closed John Deer business into a restaurant.  Poppa’s Family Restaurant opened November 2nd 2005.

Randy and Kristie have raised eight children, each working at the family business in different degrees.

Poppa’s has seating for 165 people, an upstairs banquet room seats 70, a private conference room seats 24 and the main dining room seats 71 and was remodeled in 2018.  The tables and booths were locally custom made by Steinhouser Woodworking.  All of the material was sourced from Missouri, including our “family” table that was crafted from a fallen tree from Savannah Mo.  The restaurant recently added an outdoor patio under the shade trees.

Family style restaurant sets standard for family values

“We try to provide a friendly homey atmosphere like you were in our home.  When we opened we wanted to provide a place where we could teach our children the principles of dedication and hard work so they could see and understand their value. We have discovered much more though over the years.  We have found a community of customers, or family, that is a pleasure to serve.  We are also grateful that we have been able to work with many youth over the years to help teach them the principles and skills that hopefully help them in their future careers and life.”
