Board Roles and Responsibilities
The PTSA Board has a great time teaming up to support our community. Each month, we gather at someone's house, and spend about 1.5 hours sharing food and laughs, and planning ways to support our school. Kids are always welcome.
We have several open board positions for 2024-25 and would love your energy and ideas. It's a creative and collaborative opportunity that has a big impact on our PB community (and also looks great on a resume!).
Each spring, we recruit potential candidates for the positions for the upcoming school year.
A high-level description of the responsibilities of each of the board roles is included below:
President - The President is responsible for managing the overall objectives and strategies of the PTA, coordinating the work of PB PTSA officers and committees, presiding at all PTSA meetings, signing contracts, and collaborating with board members and school administration to successfully implement all PTSA affiliated activities.
Vice President or President Elect - Serve as the successor to the current president, preparing to assume leadership responsibilities. Work closely with the president, gaining insight into the role's duties and assisting with organizational tasks, ensuring a smooth transition when you assume the presidency.
Treasurer - Responsible for managing the organization's finances. This includes keeping accurate records of income and expenses, creating budgets, and ensuring financial transparency.
Secretary - The Secretary is responsible for taking and publishing minutes at all PTSA meetings, keeping the official copy of the PB PTSA bylaws on file, and performing other delegated duties as assigned.
Fundraising - The Fundraising Chair is responsible for overseeing the fundraising efforts for the year. Activities include oversight of fundraising events and programs and working with the Treasurer to create the projected budget for the upcoming year.
Community Engagement - Organize and coordinate events that foster connections within the school community and beyond.
Communications - Design and send out PB PTSA communications through email, social media, Peach Jar/Seesaw, the website, and occasional printed flyers. Your main goal is to keep the PB community informed about all PB PTSA news, events, and updates, ensuring everyone stays connected and up-to-date.
Volunteer Coordinator - The Volunteers Coordinator Chair is responsible for recruiting and coordinating volunteers as needed throughout the school year.
Bloomington PTSA Council Representative - Bloomington's PTSA Council is a collaboration between parents from each of Bloomington's 15 schools, School Board, teachers, principals and the superintendent. Attend monthly PTSA Council meetings, and report back to the board.
Principal/Staff Representative - Act as a liaison between staff and PTSA
