We have setup our Passive Optical Network system in the Optophotonics lab Facilty (Optophotonics Communication Networks)
Pictured here is our passive optical network lab, installed in the Algonquin College Telecommunications lab. A laptop can be connected to the router via ethernet to allow us to manage and provision our network. As labelled numerically in the picture, our setup consists of:
A 1x4 optical splitter - Routes the signal from the optical line terminal to the optical networking units
Ciena 3801 optical networking units (4x) - Sends and receives optical signal containing data at the end-user premises
Ciena 5144 router - Provides ethernet connectivity to optical line terminals (OLTs can be seen plugged into the router, with yellow fiber cables connected to the OLTs)
Tibit 10G optical line terminal - Sends and receives optical signal signal containing data at central office/data center.
