Gaming takes place in a variety of settings ranging from fantastical realms of the imagination, to real world time periods. Some of these settings are, or have been, either blatantly or subtly racist, sexist, ableist, and anti-LGBTQ+. This has led to many people feeling unwelcome at some tables or in some games, and for some people to come to the opinion that some games, or all of gaming, simply “isn’t for” certain other people. PolyCon does not support that way of thinking.
Games are meant to be a source of fun and enjoyment. No one should be made to feel a game isn’t for them, unwelcome, or uncomfortable because the other people at the table wouldn't make the setting inclusive. We encourage all people running or playing in games at PolyCon to keep in mind that they are games, they are meant to bring fun and enjoyment to people, and maintaining the setting is never as important as empathy and respect.
