Privacy Policy — Calm

Calm (“the Extension”) is a Google Chrome extension designed to make browsing more comfortable by reducing screen brightness and applying a warm light filter to web pages.

Data We Collect

Calm handles only the data necessary to provide its features.

Location data

If the user voluntarily enables Automatic Sunrise & Sunset Mode and selects Detect my location, Calm may access the user's approximate location in the form of latitude and longitude.

This location is used solely to calculate local sunrise and sunset times so that the Extension can automatically activate the user's preferred night settings.

Calm does not use location data for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any other unrelated purpose.

User settings

Calm stores the settings configured by the user, including:

• Brightness and warmth preferences

• Saved profiles

• Scheduled settings

• Excluded websites

• Automatic sunrise/sunset settings

• Other preferences required for the Extension to operate

These settings are used solely to provide and maintain the Extension's functionality.

Data Calm does not collect

Calm does not intentionally collect:

• Names or other personal identification information

• Financial or payment information

• Passwords or authentication credentials

• Personal communications

• Health information

• Browsing history

• Web page content for unrelated purposes

• Advertising or behavioral tracking data

Calm does not use browsing activity for advertising, profiling, or analytics.

How Data Is Stored

Calm uses the Chrome Storage API, including chrome.storage.sync, to store the user's Extension settings.

When synchronization is enabled, Chrome may synchronize these settings across the user's Chrome devices through their Chrome account and Google's Chrome synchronization infrastructure.

Calm's developers do not operate a server that receives or stores the user's settings or location data.

Calm does not sell, rent, or transfer user data to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for advertising or profiling.

How Data Is Used

Data handled by Calm is used solely to provide its single purpose: making browsing more comfortable through brightness reduction, warm light filtering, reading mode, profiles, scheduling, and automatic sunrise/sunset behavior.

Calm does not use user data for:

• Advertising

• Personalized advertising

• User profiling

• Behavioral analytics

• Selling or monetizing user data

• Unrelated purposes

Calm's use of user data is limited to providing the Extension's disclosed functionality and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and its Limited Use requirements.

Browser Permissions

Calm requests the following Chrome permissions:

Storage
Used to save the user's brightness, warmth, profiles, schedules, excluded websites, and other Extension settings.

Tabs
Used to identify the active tab and its URL so that Calm can apply site-specific settings and update the visual filter on the active page without requiring a page reload.

Alarms
Used to manage the temporary one-hour pause and the optional 20-20-20 reminder while the Extension popup is closed.

Notifications
Used exclusively for the optional 20-20-20 reminder when enabled by the user.

Host permissions
Used to apply Calm's brightness overlay and warm light filter to web pages according to the user's settings.

Calm does not use these permissions for unrelated purposes.

Web Page Content and Browsing Activity

Calm may interact with web pages solely to apply the visual adjustments configured by the user.

The Extension does not intentionally collect, transmit, or store the content of web pages or the user's browsing history for unrelated purposes.

Website URLs may be used locally when the user chooses site-specific settings, schedules, or exclusions. This information is used only to provide those features.

Data Sharing

Calm does not sell or share user data with third parties for advertising, profiling, or other unrelated purposes.

The Extension does not operate external analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Where Chrome's built-in synchronization services are used, data synchronization is handled by Google's Chrome infrastructure as part of the Chrome Storage API.

Data Security

Calm does not operate external servers for collecting or processing user data.

Data stored through Chrome's built-in storage and synchronization mechanisms is handled by Chrome according to Google's applicable services and privacy practices.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

If Calm's data practices change, this Privacy Policy will be updated to accurately describe those changes, including the date of the latest revision.
