About the Department

The department of Political Science is one of the oldest departments of the college. It was established in 1973, the same year that the Uttar Pradesh government formed the Govt. P. G. College, Ranikhet with just one Bachelor of Arts course. The department of political Science aims to provide students with a conceptual foundation in the discipline, with an ability to critically analyse the omnipresence of the “political.”  

Political Science was introduced as a subject among other subjects offered in Bachelor of Arts. Political Science as a subject in Master of Arts were started in 1979. The Semester system was introduced in Post Graduate level from 2011-12 and it started from 2016-17 in Graduation. The Department presently offers six semesters in Bachelor of Arts course and four semesters Post-graduate MA Courses in Political Science. From the academic year 2022, the choice-based credit system (CBCS) is followed in Bachelor of Arts course. The Department also offers Ph.D. programme in all the areas of Subject. The number of seats in Ph.D. Course depends on the vacancies available with the respective teachers in the Department according to the UGC Guidelines. 


Vision

To equip students with the in depth knowledge, intellectual tools and political skills needed by them to be readily employable and successful professionals, responsible citizens and dynamic leaders both locally and at the national and global levels.


Objectives

The objectives of the department are to impart training to the student in order to equip them academic and professional capability and develop among them analytical perspectives and to undertake extension activities in order to create free, just and humane society.
