The event that sparked the movements are both in real life, however, the wide spread of both of it is due to social media
Social media played an important role in both of the movements:
-Real life protests for both movements are organized and spread online
-awareness of both movements are spread widely on social platforms such as Facebook, Tiktok, Twitter and Instagram
-Netizens, including those that do not actively speak on against social media participated in spreading awareness on social media by reposting and retweeting on the issue
Legislation changes were made after the movements regarding the issues being protested online
Both movements successfully raised awareness towards the public on issues of inequality, using social media
Both had counter-movements to undermine them MenToo for the MeToo movement and AllLivesMatter and BlueLivesMatter for Black Lives Matter
Both movements were made by black women
Black women experience race issues and gender issues together, BLM and #MeToo are tied intersectionally because of that.
Political figures in the US who are accused of sexually harassment have left their place, on the other hand no change has happened in the US Congress after the BLM movement.
The public perception of BLM is that they have an association with an underclass black male identity, and that #MeToo has an association with white middle and upper class woman.
