The PSAI political theory specialist group, in conjunction with other research groups and centres across the island of Ireland, is launching a new online seminar series in political theory. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it many difficult challenges, but also opportunities. One opportunity is the deepening and furthering of the already rich research culture in political theory across Ireland. The purpose of the new online seminar series is to do precisely that by bringing established academics, post-doctoral researchers, and PhD students together on a regular basis to discuss each other’s work and disseminate our ideas.
The series will begin in September and meet on a monthly basis. Speakers will include political theorists north and south in Ireland, with occasional speakers invited from outside Ireland. Each seminar will have one speaker and will take the form of an in-depth discussion of a paper circulated one week in advance. All those on the political theory specialist group mailing list will be invited to attend the seminars, which will also be open to others to attend. Organization of the series programme will rotate on a semester basis between the institutions and research groups sponsoring the series. These sponsors are:
Power, Conflict, and Ideologies Research Cluster and School Seminar Series (School of Political Science and Sociology, NUI Galway);
Queen’s Political Theory and Philosophy Seminar Series (School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics, QUB);
The Centre for Peace, Development and Social Justice (Department of Politics and Public Administration, University of Limerick);
The Dublin Political Theory Workshop (School of Politics and international Relations, UCD);
The Trinity Justice and Values Centre (School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, TCD);
The UCD Equality Studies Centre (School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, UCD).
The 2023/2024 series will be coordinated by Keith Breen (QUB). The programme will be advertised via the political theory specialist group mailing list and through the specialist group’s website, among other media. All will be welcome to join the seminars via an online link that will be provided closer to the time.
If you would like any further information on this, please email Keith Breen (k.breen@qub.ac.uk) or the co-convenor of the political theory specialist group, Alexa Zellentin.
