WebKit ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps users save research sources, track personal browsing statistics, manage tabs, take notes, and use small local productivity and fun tools. This policy explains what data WebKit handles and how.
WebKit stores all of its data locally on your device, using the browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API. WebKit does not have a server or backend. It does not transmit, sell, rent, or share any of your data with Anthropic, the developer, or any third party. There are no accounts, no logins, and no tracking or analytics of any kind.
Research sources: titles, URLs, highlighted quotes, personal notes, and categories/projects you choose to save.
Site notes: private notes you write, attached to the domain of the site you were viewing.
Browsing statistics: counts of pages visited, tabs opened, links clicked, domains visited, and approximate time spent browsing, used to calculate your Speedrun score and achievements.
Decision lists: custom option lists you create for the Random Decision tool.
Internet Bingo progress: your daily board, completed challenges, XP, and streaks.
Settings: your theme preference (light/dark/system).
None of the above ever leaves your device. It is not readable by the developer, by Anthropic, or by any other party, and it is not backed up to any cloud service by the extension itself.
WebKit does not collect or transmit your browsing history to any server.
WebKit does not use any AI models, APIs, or third-party analytics services.
WebKit does not display ads or share data with advertisers.
WebKit does not require or use any account, login, or personal identity information.
WebKit does not sell or transfer user data to third parties, for any purpose.

Add the right-click options "Save to WebKit Research" and "Copy as Clean Text."

Read the current tab's title/URL to save a source or note, and to power Tab Roulette.

Run a one-time script in the active tab, only when you click "Copy as Clean Text," to copy plain text to your clipboard.
clipboardWrite
Copy quotes, links, and cleaned text to your clipboard when you click a Copy button.
notifications
Show a local notification when you unlock a Speedrun or Bingo achievement.
Host permissions (all sites)
Let the highlight-to-save and site-notes features work on whatever page you're browsing, since you may want to save research or notes from any website.
You can delete individual research sources, notes, or lists at any time from the WebKit dashboard. You can also permanently erase all WebKit data at once via Dashboard → Settings → Clear all WebKit data, or by removing the extension from your browser, which deletes all locally stored data along with it.
WebKit does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data at all — all information stays on the user's own device.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised and the updated policy will be published at the same location. Continued use of WebKit after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
