"Only nature and art are sources of beauty, reflections of the true spiritual essence of life."
Poggio Di Poggio (1968) is a Franco-Belgian artist of Italian descent.
He is renowned for the authenticity and depth of his exploration into the visual expression of the human experience of existence through nature.
In his work, he seeks to capture and convey the essence of encounters with the natural world—whether in the mountains, the forest, the sea, the ocean, the lakes, or the element of water itself in all its manifestations.
From the experience of beauty and infinity arise inner silence, serenity, and profound contentment—born of a renewed connection with oneself and with the surrounding world. These experiences, in turn, awaken emotions, sensations, and memories that open the path to existential questioning: What am I feeling? Who is feeling? Who am I? What is the meaning of existence? Is there a meaning at all?
In pursuit of these questions, Poggio Di Poggio withdrew from his artistic career for eight years to live as a Buddhist monk.
For the artist, the essence of all that exists—including humankind—is spiritual. But if humanity can only touch its true nature through the beauty and infinity of the natural world, what will happen if we destroy our environment? Will we still be capable of experiencing calm, inner peace, and transcendence?
Poggio Di Poggio currently lives and works between Bruges, Belgium, and Sanremo, Italy.

The first painting of the series Cartographic Water and Glacier Landscapes of the Alps was created in 2022. It stems from an ontological and formal investigation into the element of WATER—an exceptional material presence in our environment, manifesting as liquid, solid, or vapor. Beyond its physical qualities, the series also engages with the symbolic and often mystical dimension of water, whose role in religions and spirituality—purification, blessing—underscores its status as both emblem and source of life.
This dual perspective inevitably calls into question humanity’s occupation and exploitation of natural spaces, given the dramatic consequences of chemical pollution, deforestation, species extinction, and climate upheaval. The beauty and silence radiating from Poggio Di Poggio’s works thus open onto a broader reflection on the destiny of our planet. In this endeavor, the artist draws inspiration from European Romanticism and the Asian Shan Shui tradition, infusing his practice with an emotional resonance rooted in memory and the human experience of nature.
The works first lead the viewer into silence and serenity, before inviting a second movement—toward introspection and contemplation.
Poggio Di Poggio today divides his time between Bruges, Belgium, and Sanremo, Italy, where he lives and works. Born in Annecy and having lived in several countries, he has always chosen to reside in cities of water. He notably took an eight-year pause from his artistic career to become a Buddhist monk in a forest monastery along the banks of the Mekong.
The series Cartographic Water and Glacier Landscapes of the Alps emerges from hikes in the surroundings of his native Annecy, as well as excursions into Piedmont, not far from his Italian studio.
In Novus Ordo Seclorum, visual artist Poggio Di Poggio presents a new body of work exploring the boundaries between illusion and reality.
Known for his spiritual and contemplative approach, he draws upon Eastern meditative practices, using the repetition of circles as both structure and ritual. Through this minimalist gesture, abstract forms give rise to pareidolia, the spontaneous emergence of landscapes, figures, and presences that may or may not exist.
Each composition invites the viewer to question what is seen versus what is imagined. The result is a visual experience that balances control and chance, precision and perception.
Novus Ordo Seclorum becomes a quiet meditation on the nature of reality itself, where the line between the visible and the invisible is never fixed, and beauty lies in the space between.
