Five Poetry Writing Tips for Beginners
Poetry can be viewed as a science to some people, while poetry is an art to others. Knowing the differences between these two approaches to poetry will help you choose the best one for you. You can choose to use either one or both. Make sure you pay attention to the mechanics of your poems as well as their meaning and overall artistic message. This is just a quick piece on writing tips to poetry beginners. I'll leave you with the topic of how to write better poetry.
These are five guidelines or suggestions to help you write poetry
To Rhyme, or Not - Many people who are new to poetry believe that you must rhyme all the time - on the dime – with a pine. It isn't always true. Sometimes poetry isn't even rhymed. However, it's not a good idea to avoid rhymes.
Tennis with or without nets - When you create sonnets or other structured poetry, it is almost like playing tennis with a net. Although there are many things you can do with tennis, some poets prefer "free verse", or poetry that doesn't require too much structure. It will differ from one poet to the next.
Where to publish - It's not always about publishing your poetry in a magazine. Sometimes it's more about getting people to read it. There are many online poetry communities that you can join if that is the case. Write your poetry and find one!
When to Give up - You'll never stop writing words if you are truly a poet. Even if you stop writing down the words, this is true. True poets will always have the words running through their minds, regardless of whether they want them to. Most of the time. I don't mean to scare you. Some good poetry can be downright frightening.
Don't Pay Attention to the Rules - You can read all you want about poetry writing, but if your never actually sit down to create poetry, you won't know if it is something that you were meant to do. Sometimes you need to disregard the rules. While it is important to be familiar with the rules, they should not always be respected.
These are some basics of poetry for beginners. You need to be serious about poetry and use words to express yourself. To grow as a poet, you will need to join a poetry group. Although it's hard work, many people find that there is no better way to live life. Poetry will live on - even from beginners.
