Getting Started Using Garage Band

Walkthough:

  • To begin

  1. open GarageBand from the applications menu and choose “New

Podcast” Episode”

  1. name your podcast

  2. you have several tracks to add sounds and pictures to

  3. at the bottom are your chapter markers & viewer


  • Add music

  1. to the right is the browser for the media in your iLife programs

  2. scroll and scan to find unprotected music from iTunes…

  3. or search for and then play music from iTunes

  4. include music by dragging & dropping into the “Jingles” track

  5. don’t want the whole song? split music the music where you want it

to end

f. then select the unwanted portion and then cut the music by pressing delete


  • Record your voice

  1. select the track that will optimally record your voice, male or female

  2. place the marker where you want to start and click the red record button

  3. you can start and stop your recording to listen, edit, or mark sections


  • Illustrate your podcast

    1. want to add photos? return to your media browser

    2. drag & drop photos into the “Podcast” track at the marker

    3. note it shows as a photo marker for the chapter in the lower window

    4. photo too big? you can split and cut it, or...

    5. drop next photo at the marker to shorten the previous one

    6. you can name your chapter markers to organize the info in your podcast

    7. titled chapters have the photo, name and time of each “chapter”

    8. split the last photo at the end of your sound recording

    9. finally, give your episode an album cover that will show on a webpage or iTunes


  • Preview

  1. To preview your podcast, click on the “i” to the right of your counter and play it from the beginning
