Clinic Sessions

6/30 Cycling Clinic @ Clark Elementary

The first meeting will cover bike handling and safety. Participants will arrive with whatever bike they have and will be walked through bike setup, handling, and safety for riding on roads. We will then apply these skills on a closed course and with an element of racing once the basic principles are learned. The goal is to prepare athletes to safely cycle in groups or alone on roads.

Gear Required: Bike, helmet, appropriate footwear, water bottle.

7/7 Open Water Swim Clinic @ Beaver Lake Park

Participants will first gather for a safety briefing and be divided into 3 groups based on swimming experience: Advanced= Year Round or HS varsity. Intermediate= some team swimming experience. Beginner= little or no swim team experience. Some swimming proficiency is required to attend. Participants must be able to swim 300 yd continuously. 

The clinic will introduce athletes to the basics of open water swimming, including familiarization with the lake environment and the basics of sighting. Group activities will vary based on experience level with experienced groups conducting a lake "practice" and beginner groups focusing on technique and water confidence. 

Gear Required: Suit, goggles, cap, towel, wetsuit if available, water bottle.

7/14 Run Clinic @ Issaquah Middle School

Participants will meet at the beautiful Issaquah Middle School track for a running session that will include a warm up and drills, and a speed-based workout with coaches providing input on running technique. Fun relays may break out! 

Gear required: Running shoes, water bottle

8/4 Transition Clinic @ Beaver Lake Park

Participants will bring gear to practice swim, bike, and run if possible. The session will focus on learning beach starts, water exits, Transition 1 from swim to bike, and Transition 2 from bike to run. No biking will ensue outside the parking lot. There will be mini games and relay races to practice the transition skills learned. 

Gear required: Running shoes, goggles, suit, cap, wetsuit if available, bike if available, towel, water bottle.

8/11 Swim->Run Mock Race and Gear Raffle @ Beaver Lake Park

Participants will be briefed on a 500 yard out and back swim and 1 mile run course doing 2 loops on the adjacent trail. Volunteers in kayaks and paddleboards will lifeguard the swim and volunteers will man the course and provide water and nutrition if needed. Following the event, the prizes for the summer will be given away in a gear raffle and the clinic will conclude on a high note!
