PNR Status

The abbreviation of PNR is ‘Passenger Name Record’. It is a 10 digit number and is printed on the top left corner of the printed tickets. Using this number the Indian Railways kept the passenger journey details in their records like passenger name, age, gender, date of journey, arrival or departure of train information etc.

If any passenger wants to check the current status of his or her booking railway ticket, then enter 10 digit numbers in the form of the official website and click the ‘Enter’ button. Then you will get the current status. The status of the booked ticket is given below:

  • CNF for confirmed tickets.

  • RAC (Reservation against cancellation).

  • WL (Waitlist).

  • General waiting list (GNWL) tickets.

  • Pooled quota waiting list (PQWL) tickets.

Train Ticket Booking Procedure

Any individual person who wants to travel in Indian Railways reservation coaches has to book the train tickets at the nearest railway station or through online. He can book the following types of tickets.

  • General quota reserved tickets.

  • Ladies quota reserved tickets.

  • Senior citizen reserved tickets.

  • Student reserved tickets.

  • Foreign tourist quota booking.

  • Tatkal ticket booking.

  • Premium tatkal booking.

You can book any one of the above tickets in two types, they are given below:

  • Book the ticket at the earliest of 120 days before the date of journey.

  • Single person booked the six tickets for the six passengers.

  • You can cancel the tickets at a minimum amount of cancellation charges.

Types of Indian Railway Travel Classes

Indian Railway offers several types of coaches to the passengers. It runs different types of trains like passenger, express, mail, superfast etc. In passenger trains, there is only one type of seating. Whereas in other trains, there are different type coaches with different types of fares. The different types of classes are given below:

  • 1A (AC First Class) – Air conditioning, Most luxurious and expensive class. Spacious, carpeted and lockable compartments. Sheets, pillows, blankets and towels are provided.

  • 2A (AC Two Tier) – Air conditioned coaches, six berths at each bay and curtains at each corridor.

  • 3A (AC Three Tier) – Air conditioned coaches and its berths are similar to 2A. No reading lights or curtains.

  • FC (First Class) – Similar to 1A. No air conditioning. Heritage trains have this class.

  • 3E (AC Three Tier – Economy) – Air conditioned coaches. These coaches are available at Garib Rath Express.

  • EC (Executive Chair Car) – Air conditioned coaches, spacious seats and legroom. These coaches are available at Tejas and Shatabdi express.

  • CC (AC Chair Car) – Air conditioned coaches. It has five seats in a row. These types of coaches are used in intercity day trains.

  • SL (Sleeper Class) – Non air conditioned coaches. Maximum 10 or more coaches are available in every train. 72 passengers per coach.

  • 2S (Second Seater) – Non air conditioned coaches. Similar to CC.

  • UR/GEN (Unreserved/General) – Cheapest to compare above coaches. Heavy crowd, seat not guaranteed. Tickets are issued within 24 hours of train time.
