President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment in strengthening food security and health care provisions for every Filipino as he led the national launching of the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP). “Many may not realize it, but lodged at the very core of all of this is the aspect of good nutrition of our people. If our collective ambition as a nation is to push for a fast-paced yet long-term economic development, especially in this post-pandemic era, we must be able to lay it on a firm foundation,” the President remarked, where he underscored that health and wellness of Filipinos are key factors towards achieving a robust economy. Through the PMNP, he vowed to continue in strengthening government’s plans that will address key health issues in the country such as malnutrition and hunger. According to him, this program shall level off with the thrust towards a Universal Health Care Program for the nation. The Chief Executive urged all concerned government agencies, particularly the Department of Health (DOH) to work in unison with other agencies ‘to harmonize diet and nutritional policies and practices for the people.” Moreover, he called on all legislators to pass laws and develop policies that will help in uplifting the standards of primary health care and nutrition in the country. “As the country continues to face persistent threats of hunger and malnutrition, rest assured that this Administration is working conscientiously to find effective and cross-cutting solutions to address these and other paramount social problems and concerns,” President Marcos Jr. said. The PMNP is a four-year project spearheaded by the Government of the Philippines through the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) geared towards adopting a bold and multisectoral approach to achieve nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions across various local government units (LGUs) in the country.
