Drum Instructions
Each drummer must submit all Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 in order have a valid audition. Although you are given the lead sheet, efforts should be made to catch the written figures and provide appropriate comping throughout the tune. Although you may reference tracks with drums while practicing, know that your audition cannot include drums in the track. Correct play-along tracks are found here on this website. Please use sticks throughout (not brushes).
Part 1
Play-along with “School Days” from John Riley’s book Beyond Bop Drumming.
Part 2
Perform the following style (Please use a metronome while
practicing, but you will audition without a click):
Bossa Nova: (play at quarter note = 120), 4/4 time
signature, and play 16 measures of the Bossa Nova style. Use
idiomatic comping/fills and play with sticks.

Part 3
Perform the following style (Please use a metronome while
practicing, but you will audition without a click):
Salsa/Mambo: (play half note = 110), play 16 measures of
the Salsa/Mambo style. Use idiomatic comping/fills and play with
sticks.
