Instructions

All students selected for District 3 Band must audition in order to participate in the 2026 District 3 Band Festival.  The top four scores will advance to Region II Band.  Failure to complete an audition will result in the removal from the festival.

Etude Audition Requirements:

1. Snare Drum Etude No. 8

2. Mallet Etude No. 2 (can be played on any keyboard percussion instrument)

3. Timpani Etude No. 5

4. Auxiliary Etude No. 3 (play measures 1 - 22 on Tambourine NOT Snare Drum)

Repertoire Audition Requirements:

1. Selection 1 - “Blue Radiance" Percussion 4

   • Start at m. 117 → Mid at m. 123 → End at m. 130

2. Selection 2 - "Blue Radiance" Marimba/Part 3

   • Start at m. 133 → Mid at m 139 → End at m. 146.

3. Selection 3 - "Resilience"

   • Start at m. 157 → Mid at m. 166 → End at m. 175

4. Selection 4 - "Blue Radiance" Tambourine/Part 6

   • Start at m. 134 → Mid at m. 140 → End at m. 146.

Timpani Specific Instructions

• All timpani must be untuned at the start of each timpani audition.  As per the District 3 Band Policy Manual, "Timpani will be given 4 pitches."  These pitches may be played by the student on a mallet instrument or by the band director on a mallet instrument.  The judges must hear each timpani be tuned by the student at the beginning of each timpani excerpt.

1. All auditions must be a video file with audio.

2. No post production editing is permitted.  

3. Student's face and hands must be clearly seen.

4. No school identification should be seen in the video.

5. Hands/Body must be in the video.

6. No earbuds or headphones are permitted.

7. Record each etude/selection separately.

*Failure to meet these requirements will result in an invalid audition and will not be considered*
