Volunteers are expected to be comfortable holding babies and providing developmentally appropriate interaction/stimulation.
Volunteers may be asked to clean toys or the NICU Crayon Kiosk (ipad stations)
Volunteers may be asked to fold laundry, help with various tasks/needs on the unit.
Volunteers may be asked to watch siblings of NICU patients and provide developmentally appropriate play.
Volunteers will be expected to maintain professionalism, be mindful of HIPAA practices at all times, and will refrain from asking NICU staff about a patient’s family, diagnosis, or medical plan of care.
Volunteers will be expected to wash their hands/arms up to their elbow upon entering the unit and may not wear anything on their hands (rings, watches, nail polish, artificial nails) due to the unit’s infection prevention policy.
Volunteers are expected to log into the volunteer Voalte phone and carry it with them throughout their shift so staff can contact them for patient needs. Volunteers are strongly discouraged from carrying their personal cell phones with them during their shift.
