Welcome to Plant Molecular Breeding and Bioinformatics Laboratory

Plant Molecular Breeding and Bioinformatics (PMBB) Laboratory is established recently in the Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh.

The laboratory mainly focuses on unraveling the morphological, physiological and biochemical changes in diverse global germplasm, primarily of rockmelon (at the moment) under environmental stresses such as soil-salinity and drought etc. Besides, extensive hybridization among prospective exotic and native parent materials and development of breeding population with a view to develop superior rockmelon varieties having excellent fruit quality traits and tolerant to major biotic and abiotic stresses that are adaptable to the usual cultivation practices of Bangladesh is another focus of the lab.

Marker assisted selection (MAS) using trait specific molecular markers to augment the genotyping at the molecular level is also practiced. In addition, in silico bioinformatic analyses including gene structures, homology, motifs and domains distribution, micro-synteny, promoter and cis-regulatory analyses and protein structures of nucleotide and protein sequences of important gene families at the genome-wide scale is also investigated to understand the phylogenetic relationship and evolutionary pathway; and to unravel their putative functional roles based on web based gene expression profiling.

The lab welcomes prospective students/researchers to perform research and collaborate with the lab.
