How to reach Heidelberg

From Frankfurt International Airport

The train ride from Frankfurt International Airport takes approximately two hours and may involve a change in Frankfurt Main Station or Mannheim Main Station. A one-way ticket costs around 30 euros.

An alternative is the Lufthansa Airport Shuttle service, which operates between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. The price of the one-way ticket is around 32 euros.

From Stuttgart Airport

The train ride from Stuttgart Airport takes between 1 and 2 hours and involves a transfer at Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof.  A one-way ticket costs around 25 euros. Alternatively, FlixBus offers buses from Stuttgart Airport to Heidelberg for a minimum of  8 euros.

By train

Heidelberg Main Station is a stop for both national and international connections. The most common approach is through Frankfurt, with direct connections taking about 40–60 minutes from the main station. Trains from Stuttgart take roughly 45 minutes, while routes from Munich, Nuremberg, and Berlin range from about 3 to 5 hours. International connections from cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels typically require one transfer and take around 4 hours. Upon arrival at Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof, local trams and buses offer convenient access to the city's central areas. Additional information on train schedules and fares is available at www.bahn.de.

How to reach HdA

The Haus der Astronomie is located on the MPIA campus at Königstuhl 17, on the hill above the old town. The easiest way to get there from the city center is by bus line 30 (direction MPI Astronomie or Kohlhof-Fachklinik), which departs from Peterskirche. The ride takes about 20-25 minutes. Check the RNV timetable for current departures.

Alternatively, you can reach the Königstuhl via the historic funicular railway (Bergbahn) starting from Kornmarkt in the old town - take the lower section to Molkenkur, then the upper section to Königstuhl, and walk down a few minutes to the MPIA campus entrance.

By car, follow signs to Königstuhl/MPIA from the old town; limited parking is available on campus.

Once on campus, look for the galaxy-shaped building - that's the Haus der Astronomie. You can also use this Google Maps link to navigate there directly. Note that there is no internet access on the way up to the campus, so make sure to download any necessary information (maps, schedules, etc.) before leaving the city.

How to reach the social event

The conference dinner will take place on Tuesday, June 16th at 8:00 pm at Palmbräugasse, Hauptstrasse 185, 69117 Heidelberg - in the heart of the Heidelberg Altstadt (old town), just a short walk from the Marktplatz.
