• PLT Plantronics biggest strength: Stereo over-ear design with Active Noise Canceling and three noise-canceling mics — it's built to block your environment and keep your voice clean on the far end.
• PLT Plantronics biggest trade-off: It's a heavier, older-style workhorse (Bluetooth 4, "Old" style name) with a 10-hour charge time and talk time that drops when ANC is on.
• Yealink BH70 biggest strength: Up to 35 hours of talk time (43 hours music), a flip-up boom mic that mutes instantly, and a 3-MEMS-mic AI noise-isolation system tuned specifically for open offices.
• Yealink BH70 biggest trade-off: The BH70 Mono is a single-ear headset — no stereo music immersion, and its noise control is on-ear isolation rather than full over-ear ANC.
• Who PLT Plantronics is for: Professionals who want to tune out a distracting room and stay in stereo all day.
• Who Yealink BH70 is for: Remote workers and call-center agents who live on calls and need battery life above everything.
The PLT Plantronics Voyager Focus UC is the headset you reach for when your problem isn't your voice — it's everyone else's. The over-ear, around-the-ear design with plush leatherette cushions encloses your ears rather than resting on them, and Active Noise Canceling works on the noise coming toward you. That combination matters if you're taking calls next to a TV, a barking dog, or a loud open-plan floor. In my opinion, the over-ear form factor is the single biggest reason to pick this one — it physically separates you from the room in a way an on-ear headset simply can't.
On the microphone side, three noise-canceling mics are doing the work of keeping your environment out of the call. The spec sheet is clear that the goal is for far-end callers to hear you and not your surroundings. It connects wirelessly to a PC or Mac through the included USB-A Bluetooth adapter, or straight to a phone over Bluetooth, and it's certified for Microsoft Teams while remaining compatible with other major collaboration platforms. There's also desktop software for Windows and Mac that surfaces mute and battery status, lets you adjust ringtone and ring location, and handles firmware updates.
The trade-offs are real and worth naming. Talk time runs up to 12 hours, but drops to 10 with ANC on; listening time is 15 hours, or 12 with ANC engaged. The battery takes around 10 hours to charge, which is a genuine commitment if you forget to plug in. It's also Bluetooth 4, and the product data literally labels the style as "Old" — you're buying a mature, well-established design rather than the newest radio. Roaming range is up to 98 feet (30 meters), and the frequency range covers 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz with 32-ohm impedance and a dynamic driver.
Yealink BH70: Who It's For
The Yealink BH70 Mono with Stand is the opposite philosophy: stay on calls longer, stay lighter, stay aware. The headline number is battery. Yealink rates it at up to 35 hours of talk time and 43 hours of music, with a 90-minute charge time from the included BHC70 charging stand. That's roughly three times the talk time of the Plantronics unit, and it refills in a fraction of the time. For a remote call-center agent or anyone whose job is back-to-back meetings, this is the spec that decides the purchase.
The mic system is the other half of the story. Yealink uses a 3-MEMS-mic array with Acoustic Shielding Technology and multiple noise-reduction algorithms, explicitly aimed at open offices. It's designed to block background noise while you're speaking, so your voice comes through clean rather than muffled or distorted. In practice, that's the feature that lets you take a call from a coffee shop or a shared desk without your caller hearing the room. There's also a physical mute button with an LED indicator that syncs with Teams and Zoom, plus a flip-up mic arm that mutes faster than hunting for a button.
Connectivity is flexible: it ships with a BT51 dongle (USB-C to A) and a 1.2 m USB cable, and it's certified for Microsoft Teams — including natively over Bluetooth, so you don't have to occupy a USB port if you'd rather not. Following a software release, Yealink headsets also work with Cisco Webex and Jabber, with answer, hang up and mute handled directly on the headset. The built-in busy light signals coworkers not to interrupt. The Yealink USB Connect client lets you switch the default platform between Teams and UC, update firmware, adjust EQ presets, enable sidetone and tune voice prompts. There are six audio equalizers, a 35 mm speaker, 32-ohm impedance, 117 dB sensitivity and a 20 Hz–20,000 Hz range.
Skip it if you want stereo sound for music, prefer the full ear enclosure of an over-ear cup, or need the longer 30-meter-plus roam — the BH70's Bluetooth range is rated at 50 meters, which is actually further, but the mono on-ear fit is a different experience entirely. It weighs 91 g, so it's light, but single-ear means you'll hear more of your surroundings by design.
• Best for blocking your own background noise → PLT Plantronics. True over-ear ANC beats on-ear isolation.
• Best for battery life → Yealink BH70. Up to 35 hours talk versus up to 12 (10 with ANC).
• Best for fast top-ups → Yealink BH70. 90-minute charge versus roughly 10 hours on the Plantronics.
• Best for stereo music and immersion → PLT Plantronics. Dual-ear stereo with a 20 Hz–20 kHz dynamic driver.
• Best for staying aware of your surroundings → Yealink BH70. Mono on-ear design plus a busy light.
• Best for travel and roaming → Yealink BH70. 50 m rated Bluetooth range versus 30 m, and a lighter 91 g build.
• Best for Teams-first workflows → either, but Yealink BH70 edges it with one-click join, a Teams button for raising your hand, native Bluetooth Teams certification and Cisco Webex/Jabber support.
• Best for a distraction-heavy home office → PLT Plantronics. The ANC and closed cups are the whole point.
If I had to buy one, I'd take the Yealink BH70. The 35-hour talk time and 90-minute charge remove the daily battery anxiety that the Plantronics design can't escape, and the 3-MEMS-mic system is purpose-built for the open-office and work-from-home reality most of us actually live in. I'd only switch my recommendation to the PLT Plantronics Voyager Focus UC if stereo listening and full over-ear ANC matter more to you than endurance — for example, if you share a home with noisy kids and want to vanish into your own audio bubble. That's a real, defensible reason to pick it. But for the average hybrid worker on calls all day, the Yealink is the more practical daily driver in my opinion.
Not universally — it depends on your priority. The BH70 wins clearly on battery life (35 hours vs. 12) and charge speed (90 minutes vs. 10 hours). The Plantronics wins on stereo audio and true over-ear Active Noise Canceling. If you take long back-to-back calls, the Yealink is the better fit; if you want to block out a loud room and listen to music in stereo, the Plantronics is.
Yes. It's certified for Microsoft Teams, including native Bluetooth certification so you can join meetings without a dongle, and it ships with a BT51 dongle if you prefer. Mute syncs with Teams and Zoom, and after a software update it also works with Cisco Webex and Jabber for answer, hang up and mute.
Yes. It connects wirelessly to a PC or Mac via the included USB-A Bluetooth adapter, or directly to a mobile phone over Bluetooth. So you're not locked into the dongle, though the adapter is the more reliable path for desktop calls.
In my opinion, the Yealink BH70 is the more purpose-built choice for open offices, thanks to its 3-MEMS-mic AI noise isolation and flip-up mute. That said, the PLT Plantronics is better at protecting you from the room, since its over-ear ANC blocks incoming noise rather than just cleaning up your outgoing voice. The right pick depends on whether you're solving for your callers or for your own focus. As for cost, check the current price on Amazon before deciding — the value gap can shift.
