Pliny Park Mosaic
The Mosaic at Pliny Park is Finished
Welcome! In the heart of Brattleboro, a vibrant new mosaic has come to life at Pliny Park. We, Corrine Yonce and Mary Lacy, have had the joy of collaborating with community members to create this wall-sized artwork from shards of plates and collections of personal objects transformed by time and touch. Thanks to the immense support of invested volunteers, contributors, and champions, this work embodies the spirit of community resilience and transformation. Residents contributed personal ceramic pieces—everything from chipped dishes to cherished mementos—allowing us to weave together the remnants of everyday life into a stunning tapestry of color and form.
For children, the mosaic becomes a giant "I Spy" game, featuring whimsical elements like a great blue heron made from kitchen utensils. Adults may find deeper meanings in this collective collage. Each fragment tells a story, keeping our histories close to presence and reminding us that to build anew, we must embrace change and let go of the old.
This project stands as a hopeful symbol of renewal our Vermont downtowns. Accompanying captions from Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass invite viewers to reflect on the relationships and histories woven into the artwork. The mosaic serves as a space of beauty, intimacy, and discovery—a reflection of our community’s journey toward wholeness.
As is the nature of mosaic and public art, the story of this piece is always changing. We - Corrine and Mary - will do our best to keep this digital landing page updated, but please don't hesitate to reach out with questions.

Well, cat is out of the bag. This project was always a big lift. With every public project, we plan for the "unexpected," but this project had a few too many unexpecteds. We so appreciate any help people are able to give to close out this project! We are hoping to raise an additional $3,000 to help lessen the burden of coming back for a week. We will have more information soon about how to make this contribution.
