Shortly after the Declaration of Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, blacks asked for separate congregations. There were no black ordained ministers to serve the black race at that time. About 1865, a church was organized by Rev. W.T. White, five deacons and twenty-five members, and it was named Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.Â
They held their first meetings in dwelling houses until the first church was built on Caney Fork Creek, ten miles southeast of Greensburg, Kentucky. The members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church voted to erect a new sanctuary. The new structure was completed in 1979, and the Dedication Service was held on May 4, 1980.
