This is very strange. The output of sudo apt install --dry-run playonlinux should be showing exactly what would happen if you actually installed playonlinux through apt which would indicate that it is in the 17.04 repositories.

Actually you should try and run playonlinux on terminal. Not wine as the wine version that playonlinux runs is often a different one than the system version. Playonlinux choses the wine version per application and installs it separately.

You have installed the python version from Ubuntu (version 3.10.6 in /usr/bin/python3.10) but also a foreign version (3.10.10 in /usr/local/bin/python3) which apparently prevents that playonlinux is correctly working.

I do not know why you have added another python version, but I suggest that you uninstall that foreign python version and stick to the one from the Ubuntu repositories, because that has been tested to work with playonlinux.

I dont think you can import a newer wine binary into the playonlinux binary

You may be able to get the source code of playonlinux and wine8.0, then substitute the wine8.0 source code into playonlinux source code, then compile it. It would be a big job, and there may be incompatabilities to deal with.

I now (hopefully) succeeded in getting my income tax declaration ready.

For this I bought an income tax software (designed for WIN systems of course) and I got it running on Linux Lite with the help of playonlinux.

my path on ubuntu was not the same as yours, but i found the correct one.

i get only one error message when i start this way on a command line.

i do see that i now get the truncated surnames (same as on laptop) instead of no surnames as all.

In the mean time, I also installed Linux Mint 21, which is based on ubuntu 22.04, so that I have an environment that is quite similar to yours on my laptop, with the Wine version supplied by Mint/ubuntu, which is 6 point something. 2351a5e196
