Hi! My name is Idaliana Medina, and I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Community Engagement at Point Park University. My research focuses on how sports and volunteerism work together to support positive youth development in student-athletes.

Alongside my doctoral work, I serve as the Director of Community Engagement at the United Way of Central Massachusetts, where I oversee youth leadership programs, volunteer initiatives, and partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how student-athletes grow when they engage in service and I’m passionate about amplifying their voices in my research.

Beyond my professional roles, I’ve been recognized as a Worcester Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, a Leadership Worcester graduate, and an ALX 100 Honoree.

As both a community leader and a scholar, I believe that service is one of the most powerful classrooms. By understanding the experiences of student-athletes in Massachusetts, I hope to highlight how schools, colleges, and communities can better support young people in building confidence, connection, and contribution through sports and service.

This work is also deeply personal. I am raising my young son to understand the importance of giving back, serving others, and using his strengths to make a difference in his community. My research reflects both my professional commitment and my hope to model the value of service at home.
