Amongst other things, I use one of my google home minis as a white noise machine for my baby while she's sleeping. Occasionally (maybe 30% of the time?) it will just stop playing overnight for no apparent reason. I've read that this may be due to losing internet connection, although my wifi coverage is excellent.

I've read that you can just say pay relaxing sounds for the amount of time that you want, bit it never had worked for me. For instance, I can say okay Google play ocean sounds for 8 hours and I ended up getting didgeridoo music.

Play Relaxing Sounds

I have 2 nest minis. Before, they play relaxing sounds when asked to. But it just stopped working. No sound coming out from the speakers but when I open Google Home, it says the speaker is playing and option to stop cast is displayed at the bottom. See below image.

This page highlights the multiple uses of myNoise, but features only a selection of the extensive library available for free. Visit the Full Index page (also available from the hamburger menu) to discover the many other sounds available for free. Be prepared to be amazed!

What is it about a gentle river flowing, a soft piano lullaby, or even an oscillating fan that makes people want to fall asleep? These are just a few of the most popular soothing sleep sounds that offer a fast track to dreamland, even for restless sleepers.

Whether these comforting sounds merely block noise pollution or they work deeper to calm the mind and nervous system, research supports the benefits of using sleep sounds for falling asleep and improving sleep quality.

One study does show that white noise is effective for masking environmental sounds and that it improved sleep quality. So, if external sounds are keeping you awake, the fixed static of white noise might be the ideal sleep sound for you.

Even with access to an endless variety of sleep sounds, relaxing music remains one of the most beloved sounds people like to fall asleep to. Classical music has been shown to promote better sleep in individuals with sleep challenges and decrease depressive symptoms, which may also interfere with quality sleep.

It might be helpful to try out a variety of sleep sounds at bedtime and try and find out what addresses your particular sleep challenges. Luckily, BetterSleep has over 200 sounds to help you fall asleep every night. So, get comfortable and enjoy being lulled to sleep with your favorite sounds.

You can now rest easier using Google Home. The smart speaker (as well as any other Google Assistant-enabled gadget) can now play an assortment of ambient noises, from fireplaces to rainfall to white noise. It's fairly simple to activate this feature, but you need to know what to say.

Currently, Google Home's ambient sounds collection is much more limited than Alexa's (Amazon's assistant offers literally hundreds of ambient sound skills), and Google Home will only play the ambient sounds for an hour. There's no way to have Google Home loop the sounds, or have it play for a longer period, as you can with Alexa. Still, it's a much-welcomed addition, especially for those who have trouble falling asleep.

Because these noises are available through a web browser, you can pick the sounds you like the best. You can adjust their relative levels to achieve perfectly well-balanced background noise to boost your productivity, increase your focus, deepen your meditation session, or fall asleep at night. The uses of a noise machine are extremely varied!

If you go into the app store on your phone, you can find any number of nature sound apps that are supposed to help you sleep. Natural sounds relax you because they are constant noises of a pleasant pitch. Your brain interprets them as non-threatening noises, which helps reduce your fight-or-flight response. This lowers your stress level and helps you become more relaxed for sleep. Nature sounds and other background noises also help mask sounds that might keep you awake, like traffic or someone moving around in the apartment above you.

A 2002 study conducted by animal behaviorist Dr. Deborah Wells confirmed the relaxing effect on dogs of classical music. In this study, the dogs spent more time resting and being quiet, and less time standing when exposed to classical music compared to heavy metal music, pop music, or conversation.

These noises can be stressful for many dogs, so playing a favorite tune can help distract them from the noises outside and keep them calm. Music can help mask the sound of fireworks or thunderstorms.

Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell partnered with Through a Dog's Ear to create audio tracks that combine calming music with low-volume sound effects like fireworks, thunderstorms, and city sounds. These are great tools for introducing puppies to new sounds in a positive way, and they can also be used in a desensitization training plan.

The Sound Proof Puppy app is another option to proactively expose your puppy to new sounds during their socialization period. It's available on the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

With macOS Ventura, Apple introduced a new feature called Background Sounds. If you're having a hard time finding this feature, don't worry. This guide will show you how to enable background sounds on your Mac.

Background sounds debuted in iOS 15's accessibility settings, allowing you to play background sounds on iPhone. Similarly, you can also enable them on your Mac from Accessibility settings. Follow these simple instructions to do so:

Additionally, if you toggle on the Turn off background sounds when your Mac is not in use option, these background sounds will be disabled when you're not actively using your computer.

It can be a hassle going to Accessibility settings to turn on background sounds every time, especially if you use it often. Fortunately, you can add background sounds to the Control Center and access the feature quickly. Follow these steps to learn how:

Once added, you can easily access background sounds from the Control Center. All you have to do is open the Control Center, click the Hearing (ear) icon, and select Background Sounds to turn on ambient sounds.

Background sounds in macOS Ventura might not be one of the most significant additions to the Mac. However, these background sounds can help you bring back your focus from distracting sounds, improving your productivity when working on your Mac.

Like the colors of a chameleon, the sounds you hear on Calmy Leon slowly change over time. If you can't wait, hit the reload icon (or simply reload the page) to discover a new sound palette. These dynamic sounds are associated with the black icons, and are ideal to calm down or meditate.

Static noises are associated with the white icons. These white noises are capable of masking undesired sounds around you, including your tinnitus. They will also increase your focus and productivity. Use the top slider to adjust the level between the dynamic sounds (black) and static noises (white).

If you easily fall asleep when it's raining outside, then you'll love this one. It puts me right to sleep. Just say, "Alexa, play rain sounds" and your Echo will immediately conjure up the sound of a shower.

If you want to fall asleep to a different sound every night, this is a good skill to use. It has over 125 sounds to choose from, including thunderstorms, ocean sounds and crickets. When you're ready for a snooze, just say "Alexa, tell Sleep Sounds to play thunderstorms," or whatever sound you want to hear. You can set a sleep timer so it won't play all night by saying "Alexa, set a sleep timer for three hours."

Once the skill is enabled, you can say "Alexa, open bedtime stories and play all stories" or "Alexa, open bedtime stories and play Little Red Riding Hood." If there's a story your child doesn't like, they can say "Alexa, next" to skip and move on to the next story.
