Frogger ( (Furogg)) is a 1981 arcade game developed by Konami. It was licensed for North American distribution by Sega-Gremlin and worldwide by Sega itself. It is regarded as a classic from the golden age of video arcade games, noted for its novel gameplay and theme. The object of the game is to direct frogs to their homes one by one by crossing a busy road and navigating a river full of hazards. The Frogger arcade version is an early example of a game with more than one CPU, as it used two Z80 processors.[2]

Online emulated version of Frogger was originally developed for the Sega Genesis known as the Mega Drive outside North America. It was a 16-bit fourth-generation home video game console developed and sold by Sega. The Genesis is Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Sega released it as the Mega Drive in Japan in 1988, and later as the Genesis in North America in 1989. In 1990, it was distributed as the Mega Drive by Virgin Mastertronic in Europe.

Designed by an R&D team supervised by Hideki Sato and Masami Ishikawa, the Genesis was adapted from Sega's System 16 arcade board, centered on a Motorola 68000 processor as the CPU, a Zilog Z80 as a sound controller, and a video system supporting hardware sprites, tiles, and scrolling. It plays a library of more than 900 games created by Sega and a wide array of third-party publishers delivered on ROM-based cartridges. Several add-ons were released, including a Power Base Converter to play Master System games. It was released in several different versions, some created by third parties.

Review 1: What a weird but at the same time ingenious game! Just good old arcade-style. You play a frog (you wouldn't have guessed!) and your task is to cross the street and the river to reach that delicious flys and have it for dinner. On the street you have to avoid the natural enemy of all frogs: cars! When you finally crossed that dangerous part and come to the river - where you of course feel a little more at home - you have to cross it by jumping logs and some animals I can't identify. Well, needless to say that those are moving (would be too easy otherwise, wouldn't it?), so you need some skill! All time classical game.

Review 2: One of the well known games ever. This is one of the first official frogger games made for the PC. The point of the game is to get to the other side of the road without dying.

One of the most popular arcade titles of all time, Frogger was first released by Konami in 1981. Putting the player in a position where they must safely guide a frog across a highway and a river, the game was an instant classic, testing the skills of players for decades to come. Not only does the original remain extremely recognizable to this day, there have also been more recent versions of the title that have been released on a variety of gaming platforms.

Once the arcade portion of the action ends, players will be tasked with choosing one of five lily pads. Four of these hold instant payouts, offering small rewards: anywhere from two to eight coins (meaning the best you can do is get your money back). However, the last one grants access to the bonus wheel, while is the part of the game that feels most like casino slot machines.

The game starts with three, five, or seven frogs (lives), depending on the settings used by the operator. The player guides a frog which starts at the bottom of the screen, to his home in one of 5 slots at the top of the screen. The lower half of the screen contains a road with motor vehicles, which in various versions include cars, trucks, buses, dune buggies, bulldozers, vans, taxis, bicyclists, and/or motorcycles, speeding along it horizontally. The upper half of the screen consists of a river with logs, alligators, and turtles, all moving horizontally across the screen. The very top of the screen contains five "frog homes" which are the destinations for each frog. Every level is timed; the player must act quickly to finish each level before the time expires.

The only player control is the 4 direction joystick used to navigate the frog; each push in a direction causes the frog to hop once in that direction. On the bottom half of the screen, the player must successfully guide the frog between opposing lanes of trucks, cars, and other vehicles, to avoid becoming roadkill.

By jumping on swiftly moving logs and the backs of turtles and alligators except the alligator jaws, the player can guide his or her frog safely to one of the empty lily pads. The player must avoid alligators sticking out at one of the five "frog homes", snakes, and otters in the river, but may catch bugs or escort a lady frog for bonuses. When all five frogs are directed home, the game progresses to the next level, with increased difficulty. After five levels, the game gets briefly easier yet again gets progressively harder to the next fifth level.

The game was originally going to be titled "Highway Crossing Frog," but the executives at Sega felt it did not capture the true nature of the game and was changed simply to "Frogger". In addition to inspiring numerous clones, this game inspired an unofficial sequel by Sega in 1991 called Ribbit which featured improved graphics and simultaneous two-player action.

I have about a dozen Atari games I love to play over and over again for decades and decades. Frogger is definitely on that list for both the 8-bit computers and the consoles. This game has everything. It is super easy to play since you are moving the frog up and down and left to right with the joystick. There is no jumping or use of the fire button. You goal is to avoid the traffic, navigate the floating logs, and arrive at your froggy home at the top of the screen. There is a time limit of course and some extra point opportunities along the way. In addition the ease of gameplay, I love the graphics and I find the music to be upbeat and happy. These elements all make for an awesomely fun game.

Frogger was released by Konami in 1981 as an arcade game. I recall spending many dollars worth of quarters playing this game in the arcade. I loved it back then as well. Frogger was released on the Atari 2600 in 1982 by Parker Brothers and quickly became a hit. Frogger was released on the Atari 8-bit computers in 1982 and 1983 by both Sierra-Online and Parker Brothers. I personally think it is one of the best games for the Atari 2600 both in terms of graphics and gameplay. ff782bc1db
