Hello Neighbor.
As the founder of the Platt Park Hive, I learned very early that I simply can't do this alone. So, along with forming strategic partnerships, I've also highlighted products below that with help me with ROI.
Merch signals that you are a member of the HIVE and each purchase generates buzz for our community initiative. I also have wildflower seed packets that you can use to plant your "Pollination Station" to invite the bees in the spring.
Lastly, Plan Bee is a wonderful resource for supplies, honey, and learning.
To plant a "pollination station" you can purchase a seed packet for $3 by contacting Rebekah.
Each purchase goes to helping the Hive Thrive (aka Rebekah doesn't have to pay for all of this herself). *no returns
Local Partners
A community science program in which volunteers learn about bee biology and identification, and become stewards for pollinators and the environment through backyard data collection. The overall goals of the project include: 1) educating Coloradans on the importance of native bees, pollinators, and biodiversity in our landscapes, and 2) contributing to research in ecology, adult learning, and computer science/AI technology. We hope to contribute to a ripple effect from awareness to action that supports pollinator conservation.
Learn the very basics of beekeeping. In the first session, you will learn whether it is allowable to keep honey bees in your community; the types of hives and their components; where to source equipment and gear, honey bees, further instruction and mentorship; the costs of setting up a colony; as well as timing and time commitment. In the second session, you will learn the essentials of bee biology and colony social structure The 3rd session will feature a trip to a local bee yard. Open some beehives for inspection and get to experience the colony in action! Gear will be provided - but if you have your own, please bring it.
