Plasma Fibroblast Treatment is a skin tightening treatment used as an alternative to injections, lasers, or surgical procedures used for skin tightening and improving the skin's appearance. It is a relatively new procedure that is minimally invasive. It is said to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin by enhancing and lessening facial wrinkles, fine lines, and pigmentation of the skin.
What is Plasma Fibroblast Treatment?
Fibroblasts are protein-producing and collagen cells found in the dermis, the layer of skin just below the top layer of the skin. They have an essential role to play in keeping our skin healthy. For example, they are responsible for the tightening and firmness of the skin and healing wounds. Plasma Fibroblast therapy targets these cells.
The procedure is done using a small pen-like device that releases a high-frequency current in a small skin area. The probe does not come in contact with the skin. Instead, it is held just above the skin, releasing a targeted current into the targeted area of treatment. The electric current creates micro-injuries (small holes) on the top layer of the skin. The metal probe uses atmospheric gases to create an ionic charge. This ionic charge combines with the gases that the skin releases naturally to produce a plasma charge. As a result, an electrical charge is created, shrinking the targeted area of the skin. The micro-injuries help:
● Cause a breakdown of protein build-up.
● The skin tissues to contract (tighten)
● Encourage regeneration of tissues.
● Cause an increase in fibroblast activity.
All of the above result in tightening and rejuvenation of skin tissue. It improves the appearance of the skin by smoothing and tightening it. It is also called Plasma Skin Resurfacing.
Benefits of the Procedure
It is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure. It is effective in treating skin pigmentation, acne scars, loose and wrinkled skin (jaws, eyelids, neckline, around the lips), and seborrheic keratosis. It may also be used to give the lips a fuller look.
Effectiveness and Safety of the Procedure
The plasma fibroblast procedure is a safe, non-invasive, and non-surgical procedure. When performed in a safe and controlled environment, it is a highly safe procedure. Under expert care, it produces mild to moderate skin tightening and improves skin texture and appearance. It also has a favourable change in the contours of the facial skin. According to studies, the treatment is expected to boost fibroblast production for up to a year after treatment.
What is the procedure for the treatment?
The treatment may vary slightly depending on the place of therapy. But the basic steps are:
● The skin is cleansed, and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area of treatment. This cream takes about 30 minutes to start taking effect and numbing the skin.
● The fibroblast pen is used to treat the area. This will create small scabs like dots on the top layer of the skin.
● The skin is wiped down, and a cooling gel or cream is applied to reduce the tingling sensation.
● This entire process takes 45-60 minutes.
Recovery Process:
Once the procedure is done, small dot-like scabs are formed in the area that has been treated. These dry and fall off within a week.
Over the next couple of weeks, the skin heals, becomes tighter and firmer, and improves appearance.
Some people see the results in one sitting, whereas others may need up to three sittings for the results to be visible.
Side effects:
It is essential for the person undergoing the procedure to realise that while there will be visible results, they may not be as prominent as a surgical procedure.
There may be some side effects visible in the area of treatment which is temporary and heal very soon. These may include:
● Swelling.
● Skin crusting and peeling
● Slight redness.
● Mild hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
● Mild hypopigmentation (light spots)
Plasma Fibroblast Treatment is increasingly used instead of surgical treatments as it is safer and has a reduced healing time.
